Our Story

Confidence that lasts a lifetime

Performworks Productions was founded and is directed by Charlotte Cattrall and it was born from personal experience.

As a young child, Charlotte was shy, quiet, and lacking in confidence. Although she loved theatre and singing, she struggled to speak up in class. At parents’ evenings, teachers consistently described her as hardworking but reluctant to contribute, encouraging her to “find her voice”. For many parents, this story will feel familiar.

Charlotte’s parents enrolled her in LAMDA Speech & Drama lessons at school to help build her communication skills and everything changed. That weekly lesson became the highlight of her week: a safe, supportive space where she could express herself, experiment, and grow in confidence alongside her peers.

The impact was remarkable. Charlotte went on to join the debate team, excel in public speaking, achieve Drama awards and gold medals at Speech & Drama festivals, and perform professionally for King Charles III. Just as importantly, her literacy, school attendance, and academic confidence improved, benefits that extended far beyond the drama studio.

This is the transformation Performworks Productions exists to create.

Founded in 2021, following the Covid lockdown, Performworks was created in response to the growing number of young people struggling with confidence, communication, and social interaction. Charlotte saw first hand how isolation and online learning affected her students and she wanted to offer something more.

Performworks group classes use techniques drawn from professional actor training to help children and young people:

  • speak clearly and confidently

  • develop creativity and imagination

  • build self-esteem and resilience

  • communicate effectively with others

Above all, students are supported, encouraged, and celebrated as they grow. Whether a child is quiet, anxious, outspoken, or simply curious, Performworks provides a space where they can find their voice, believe in themselves, and thrive, just as Charlotte once did.

Over the last 5 years we have grown and developed to have 600+ students taking group lessons with Performworks every week and a team of 10 highly respected and experienced teachers who share a passion for arts education and a belief in the transformative impact of our classes.
